![]() Think about all the times we see Dom drink Corona in the past seven movies. They’re in New York, not LA, and most importantly, they’re missing two key pieces of their circle, Mia and Brian. Mainly, the gang isn’t home, physically and metaphorically. ![]() Hence, no Corona.Įven in the final scene, when the world should back on its regular axis, there are indications that things are going to be different now, and maybe Dom is too. For most of the film, Dom is a rogue agent, and while his team knows he hasn’t totally forgotten them, they also know that he’s not being himself. ![]() Thus, the lack of Coronas in The Fate of the Furious isn’t an accident, but a significant and important detail. If you have a favorite beer, you know that drinking it can feel like coming home. We’ve spent 16 years establishing Dom’s favorite beer, something that’s a key part of his identity. In the first film, Dom makes his first overture of friendship to Brian by handing him a Corona. Throughout the franchise, the beer is almost a character in itself, signifying not just Dom’s LA roots, but his friendship with Brian O’Connor. While the missing Corona could be because Anheuser-Busch (which owns both Corona and Budweiser) just decided to spread the love a little, Corona was never about straight product placement. Why is Dom, who famously refused to let Brian drink anything but Corona in the first movie, suddenly saying grace over a bottle of silver and red Anheuser-Busch? It may seem like a little thing, but dedicated fans know that Corona is as much a part of the films as the fast cars and lower-butt shots, and its absence is significant. If we know one thing, it’s that Dom is a Corona man. As people congregate around the table, Dom gets ready to say grace and toasts the crew with his bottle of Budweiser. In the final scene of The Fate of the Furious the reunited gang, plus a couple of new additions, gather on a New York rooftop to celebrate surviving yet another crazy scheme. Mainly, it’s what’s not on the table when Dom and his crew gather for their traditional family meal. There are a lot of things missing from the latest installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, and while the lack of Paul Walker leaves the biggest hole, a smaller, more intimate detail makes everything about the eighth movie feel slightly off. ![]()
